The Moebius strip is a loop-like geometrical shape that, because of a twist in its material, has only one surface. When a Moebius strip is cut lengthwise around the loop, unexpected new shapes result. We took this intriguing shape as our symbol because, although there are many sides to our activities, there is one basic underlying purpose (analogous to the Moebius strip’s one surface): to make beautiful music for a wide variety of audiences. Also, despite the unity of our purpose (comparable to the essence of the Moebius strip), there are many surprising aspects to our activities and to our individual musicians (analogous to the different kinds of loops that result from cutting the Moebius strip in various ways).
