The String Quartet

The string quartet from its beginnings, ca.1760, to the present day; with special focus on the principal exponents, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Schoenberg, Bartók, and Shostakovich. The course is linked, whenever possible, with the String Quartet series of the Kathryn Bache Miller Theatre.

The prerequisite for this course is C1123 or F1123 Masterpieces of Western Music or BC 1001x or 1002y Introduction to Music, or equivalent.
