The Operas of Verdi

A historical and critical introduction to the operas of Giuseppe Verdi. The course focuses on Macbeth, La traviata, Don Carlos, and Otello; performance and staging; and Verdi as innovator as well as populist in the history of music theater.

The prerequisites for this course are C1123 or F1123 Masterpieces of Western Music or BC 1001x or 1002y Introduction to Music, or equivalent, and the abiity to read musical notation.
