Columbia Musicologists at the American Musicological Society Conference

The American Musicological Society [1] is holding its annual convention November 1st-4th in Quebec City. Five Columbia musicologists will be participating by giving papers, chairing sessions, and participating in panel discussions.

Susan Boynton will present her paper “Fanny and Wilhelm Hensel’s Das Jahr” with her collaborator Daniel Harkett, from the Rhode Island School of Design.

David E. Cohen
will chair a session entitled “Respecting Authority”.

Ryan W. Dohoney will present his paper "'Allying necessity with unpredicatability': Morton Feldman's Early Music and Ideologies of Abstraction."

Benjamin Piekut will present his paper “Gender and the New Thing: The Case of the Jazz Composers Guild”.

Laura Silverberg will participate as a panelist in a Cold War and Music Study Group Session titled “Music and Politics in the Early Cold War: Recent Approaches, Future Directions”.

Ruth Rosenburg
will present her paper “‘My Compatriot the Savage’: Musical Anachronism and Sound in Tocqueville’s New World”.
