Art music of the modernist period from 1885 to the outbreak of World War I, seen within and through the context of European culture. Particular attention is given to Germany and Austria.

The prerequisite for this course is C1123 or F1123 Masterpieces of Western Music or BC
1001x or 1002y Introduction to Music, or equivalent.
