Music Department Community Members Receive Honors in Fall 2003
Congratulations are extended to those members of the Music Department community who recently received special honors for their achievements in Fall 2003:
• Professor Elaine Sisman was elected President of the American Musicological Society. Read more
• At the 2003 National Conference for the Society of Music Theory in November, Professor Fred Lerdahl was awarded the Wallace Berry Award for his book, Tonal Pitch Space (Oxford, 2001); Associate Professor David E. Cohen was awarded the Outstanding Publication Award for his article, "The Imperfect Seeks its Perfection: Harmonic Progression, Directed Motion, and Aristotelian Physics," Music Theory Spectrum 23.2 (2001); and alumnus David Temperley (PhD '96) was awarded the Emerging Scholar Award for his book, The Cognition of Basic Musical Structures (M.I.T., 2001).
