Severin Fowles

Severin Fowles is an anthropologist whose research focuses on the archaeology and ethnohistory of ancestral Pueblo communities in New Mexico and Arizona. He has deep interests in the articulation of native oral history and archaeology, drawing upon these links to rethink the long-term development of Pueblo religion, patterns of movement, and iconographic traditions. His current fieldwork includes an archaeological survey of the rock art of the Rio Grande Gorge, through which he is exploring the semantic relationship between the gorge's rugged volcanic landscape and the pre-Columbian icons etched into that landscape. His classes include
"Pre-Columbian Histories of Native America" as well as seminars on archaeological theory and material culture studies more generally.
